My Proposal (brief parts)
I am going to be exploring the theme of Gender identity and equality between men and women. I will be producing a portraiture set of images which will use both male and female subjects in a number of different ideas/poses/relationships in their way of touching and how they are portrayed together which will explain that we are all the same, human beings, male, female, both equal.
I have been inspired for this project by two of Annie Leibovitz controversial images of John Lennon and Miley Cyrus.
I am going to produce a set of portraiture images in black and white, which show the plain, natural beauty of equality of men and women (human beings). I am going to use many different ideas/poses in order to portray this within my subjects. My ideas are having a male and a female touching in every image…
Forehead to forehead
face to face
back to back
hand to hand
hands clenched together
Arm to arm
leg to leg
foot to foot
From this idea i took a few practice shots which involved myself and another model.I focused on the idea of hands clenched together, arm to arm, leg to leg and foot to foot. I found it hard including myself because it was difficult to capture the different angles in the way of which i wanted to portray it due to lack of movement available therefore i am going to be focusing on using a tripod and self timer on my next shots and focus more on my facial ideas so movement is not restricted and the images are more in focus, I shot the photos in colour and then edited them to black and white.
When i showed these images to my peers i was given feedback such as look in to using body parts which are slightly similar to add more of an edge and a mystery to the images, so it’s hard to see which is male and which is female, in order to present my idea of equality. I am going to expand on this idea and use the facial features such as eyes, nose and mouth as a starting point and see if the impact of the image is stronger.
