Techniques and Process 1B – Task 1 – Using Flash with diffuser

The aim of this task was to use Flash and a diffuser  in order to gain a further understanding of the techniques used and the affect it creates. I based this shoot on a portrait.

I have found that i prefer using a flash gun with a diffuser. For this shoot i strapped an A4 plain white sheet of paper to the flash gun head. When comparing these images to the ones with straight forward flash i have found the light to be softer and more flattering which i prefer to use within portrait photography. I still however feel i need more practice using a flash gun to see what other affects it can create within portraits.

Overall i have fulfilled my aims of this task, i have managed to gain a further understanding of how flash works and what affect it has upon portrait photography. I am becoming more confident within using this technique and find that using a diffuser completely transforms the image.
