4Talent Day – Commercial Photography

PDP – Outcome 2

Bradford Film School held the 4Talent day by Channel 4. This was a great opportunity to discover the potential fields of employment and how to get working within them.

I chose to take the commercial photography workshop.
first i was asked to look at food photography; i learnt that you should always light food from above. Positioning of the food is vastly important.
I then looked at commercial photography within the studio with a model. We were asked to work with the model, communicate with her and produce some shots. Then we were given a brief to sell some ‘boring/horrible’ shirts. I began to photograph the model in different poses in order to capture different aspects of the shirt. However then Trever (workshop runner) asked us to simplify it down, forget about the model and focus purely on the shirt, keep it simple.
I found this workshop fun and extremely educational. I have learnt a lot; how to light subjects, where to position them, where to position yourself, how to communicate, make relationships, work with models and how to advertise products.
