Red Ribbon Charity Event

PDP – Outcome 2

Bradford university students have a Red Ribbon Charity association group. In aid of AID awareness they held a masquerade ball at the Bradford Hotel on the 6th December in order to raise money for the charity. I put my name forward and was asked to photograph the event.

I met with one of the event co-ordinators – Joy. We discussed a potential brief and event scheduled for the night and what they wanted me to photograph.

As this was my first time photographing an event, i found it went well.  Looking back at the images over the night there are many things i would have changed;

i was struggling with the lighting within the room even with using flash as the lighting set up kept changing throughout the night. Therefore i started shooting at ISO 800 which has meant my images are really grainy. When i have blown the images up they are not as sharp as i wanted and look grainy. However for web use and small prints they are acceptable. I also struggled with focus due to it been a very dark room and lots of quick movement. I forgot the check my white balance within my first set of shots however when looking over them and discovering they had a blue tint i quickly turned it to auto and managed to recover the my first set of shots in Photoshop as i shot in RAW.

Overall this was a great experience and i have learnt what to do and what not to do at events. I enjoyed the night and seem to have produced images that the guests are happy with.
