Advanced Studio Practice 2A – Best Practice Images

Throughout this semester I have managed to develop as a person and a photographer. I have managed to develop my skills which allow me to express myself, my ideas and my work more professionally.

From the class tasks I have learnt how concept is a key part within photography. I now know how to conceptualise any object or words and what it takes to do this. After taking part in these activities I have managed to develop them further by choosing my own objects and conceptualising them myself. Knowing how to do this helps me as a photographer. It means I can expand upon the ideas I have as a photographer and allows me to tackle any problem upon a shoot by been able to think openly and imaginatively.

Producing a self-portrait helped me develop as a person and a photographer. It boosted my confidence, I had to look deeply at myself as a person and as a photographer, I had to narrow myself down in to one simple shot on how I want people to look at me. This was the biggest development I made this semester. It allowed me to take control, plan and research and also develop my strengths and weaknesses. Which has helped me take control and develop as a photographer working within a wider commercial context. It helped me develop skills with lighting, planning a shoot, control the model and scene and identifying with myself, a huge confidence booster.

The Julia Fullerton Batten Workshop helped me understand how lighting/props and creating a scenario within your images is a huge factor as it draws in the audience and it is how your work will be noticed. Make it different, stand out, unique.
This workshop also helped me develop my weakness of learning new skills as a photographer. I am now more informed about different lights which can be used within photography/film and how they work and what they do.

Overall all these tasks throughout the semester has helped me develop and strengthen as a person and a photographer and are one of the main reasons my proposal project developed successfully as I managed to incorporate all this information and pursue it within my project. They also helped me develop as a photographer as they pushed me to work upon commercial jobs and collaborate with models and make-up artists. This is a huge step for me and my confidence. I enjoyed these jobs and collaborating with other users and it is something I want to pursue within my future as a photographer.
