Throughout this semester I have managed to develop as a person and a photographer. I have managed to develop my skills which allow me to express myself, my ideas and my work more professionally.
All the tasks I took part in this semester have helped me develop upon my strengths and weaknesses as a photographer. I have learnt and developed upon many different skills, learnt lots of new techniques and also applied what I have learnt in to commercial context through contacting people and working on professional jobs.
I have learnt about exposure and night photography. How to photograph locations with long exposure, what equipment you need and how to use it. How light pollution can affect these exposures and what you should take in to consideration when shooting long exposure – health and safety.
I have learnt how to use flash guns, portable battery equipment and extra modifiers within flash. All these skills have helped me develop my photography projects this semester and boosted my confidence. I have taken these skills into professional jobs with me.
I am now aware of what white balance and colour casts do and how they can affect your work or used creatively within the right working conditions. These experiments have also taught me how important white balance is within a shoot whether you are shooting in RAW or not.
I now understand what Inverse Square Law is and how it works. It was difficult to understand at first however I now find it a useful equation when shooting. However all the tests I have done to understand inverse square law have failed I am confident on how it works and how it helps me as a photographer.
As well as all this I have managed to develop my skills upon Photoshop (software usage). I now feel more confident within post-processing and have learnt many new skills within the programme which I have managed to apply to my projects this semester.
Overall all these new skills and knowledge of techniques has helped me develop as a photographer and gain confidence. I have managed to develop these tasks and use the techniques myself upon professional jobs and practice shoots in order to become more knowledgeable with the equipment.
