Advanced Techniques and Process 2B – Multi grade Printing – Split Grade Printing

Outcome – 3

Comparing my results of the Medium Format Film i developed i have found i prefer using split grade printing.

I have found that i prefer the overall aesthetic.

The Multi grade prints look slightly flat and grey – there overall tonal value is low and they look dull. However the Split Grade prints have strong contrast within the shadows and highlights so the overall image has strong texture

Split grade printing allowed me to have more control over my developing. I had to engage with each grade and exposure precisely so that the texture and details were captured fully within the prints.

Multi grade printing is great for first timers within a dark room, it allows you to engage with control of your developing however i find the quality isn’t as strong.
