Outcome – 1
The aim of this task was to stick to the brief and create a starting point of images which will direct fashion portraits i am going to create.
I managed to meet my aims. After arranging a model and a make-up artist I began to shoot some of my charity shop props, however I struggled to capture them in a flattering light. This is due to lack of planning with what I want to do with the props. Therefore the images look more like model head shots than fashion portraits. I was unhappy with the lighting situation (large rectangular soft box above facing down on model, model away from backdrop to cast light grey tone to backdrop) therefore next time I want to try smaller soft boxes, ocotobox and a beauty dish. I was also unhappy with the composition as i struggled due to only have a long lens on use. I will be using multiple lenses in future – depending on composition of image and how much information i need to capture.
Overall I am happy with this shoot as I now know I need to do further research in to fashion portrait styles; hair, make-up, posing, prop position and lighting and that all these elements will be what bring my image together as I will have further understanding of what I want to capture and how I’m going to do it.
After doing some research in to different fashion portraits I have decided that I will be photographing…
elegant/classy look with a bold make-up twist – so still be classy but also has attitude
half body shots of the model with strict poses – models need to be more experienced and comfortable in front of camera, also need to be able to pose with various expressions
props will be used in a normal and contemporary way – to show what the product is and to also add an edgy twist to the images in order to capture the brief fully
I aim to use numerous lighting set ups depending on prop and composition of each frame
