  • Have the new laws on model requirements impacted the fashion industry? (Group A)
  • What elements within a fashion images do people identify with? (Group B)

Group A – Refers to Models – Controlled Group
Group B – Refers to everyone else – Other Group

Within my project I will be creating a series of images using Group B as the subject matter and my own fashion myth to represent how ridiculous commercial influence is upon consumers due to how they interact with the trend. In order to identify the issues this influence has upon young adolescents.

Research throughout this project will consist of many different variations. I am going to begin by examining the statistical elements which identify the requirements to work as a model. Alongside this will be analysing how the new laws within France regarding the health of models and post processing limitations have impacted the fashion industry. As well as what the law means and why it has been passed. Continuing on I will be creating questionnaires in order to conduct research in to how the media affects younger audiences. In conjunction I will also be looking at statistical reports of on issues caused by false representation within media. This will allow me to analyse the data and answer some of the sub issue questions within my project.

Alongside this research I will also be examining similar projects, which have inspired me. (Tim Walker – The Granny Alphabet/ C&A fashion clothing). Looking at contemporary culture; Dove and Marks and Spencer advertisements. As well as outside the social norm, different socially judged groups such as disabled models, trans gender, religion driven models who are impacting the fashion industry. In order to connect with work which has used Group B as subject matter. As well as this I will be researching current fashion trends, which have been consumed, by celebrities and influence group b. Looking at contouring, big lips and thick, hair eyebrows. I will mainly use Instagram to record these accounts.

Techniques throughout this project will consist of using different software’s such as Capture One and Photoshop. This will allow me to compare and contrast the best visual aids as well as been equipped to work professional within my current chosen area due to having the required skills. I will also show various lighting techniques within my portfolio to show my skills and understanding as well as creative side. This will be done within the studio and upon locations. As well as working collaboratively with make-up artists and Group B people will allow me to build up relationships and produce a high standard portfolio with a difference.

Once again I am representing society through a democratic fashion project. Identifying the issues caused by fashion advertisements in order to see what affect is has on its adolescent audience. By representing Group B with a new fashion trend in hopes of raising awareness to the problems mass media reproduction causes young adolescents to struggle with today. Therefore I want my target audiences to help relay these messages. I believe this could be done through publishing and exhibiting.
